Anteros, When We Land, Album Review

Anteros
When We Land
Album Review

Anteros is a band that I have been aware of now for quite some time. But rather than knowing them through any previous recordings or Spotify suggestions, I was lucky enough to see Anteros live when the group headlined a show in Brighton which I will always remember fondly as one of the very last shows I would see at Sticky Mikes Frog Bar prior to the venue closing for good on New Year's Eve.

So with that being said, I was definitely looking forward to the release of the very first full-length album from this incredible group. Just as an overview of what Anteros are like stylistically, they have a fantastic sense of charisma and coolness to them. Listening to them is a lot like listening to Wolf Alice or Black Honey, only their sound is far more authentic and raw.

A lot of the tracks on When We Land also have a nice sense of warmth to them, making it a very good listen with the springtime warmth creeping in. Another thing I really enjoyed about this albums tracks was there there was a tonne of variety thanks to each song covering different moods; some mellow and others more upbeat.

While the first half of the album still felt pretty solid, It was the second half that completely won me over and really showed me that this album was incredibly well thought out.

As someone who enjoyed the bands live performance, it was great to recognise the melodies of tracks like "Breakfast" and "Ordinary Girl" while also listening to other tracks which felt like an entirely new experience.

Arguably my favourite track on this album would be "Let It Out" for the way it beautifully progresses into a semi-orchestral soulful anthem with some gorgeous vocal melodies. "Wrong Side" is also a fantastic contender to this and is perfect for listeners who are looking for an upbeat and funky tune full of summer vibes.

This album came as the perfect way to conclude such a remarkable month of music. The months to come would have to be astounding to best this. But given that various singles are showing signs of some very promising albums, I have a feeling that might just be possible.

But back to Anteros. I really have a good feeling about this band. I felt that they had the presence of a truly talented band, which has been furthered even more by this fabulous debut album.
