Desert Sessions Vols. 11 & 12 Album Review Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Music I was instantly interested when discovering the enormous musical collective that goes by the name of Desert Sessions. The series was founded by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme. With the newest edition to the colourful discography shared by the artists that make up Desert Sessions, Vols. 11 & 12 is what people have described to be a "compilation album", and my gateway into this intriguing project. Since 1997, Homme has rounded up a bunch of other artists to the tiny studio in Joshua Tree, California. In this newest instalment, my discovery of Jake Shears, and Royal Blood's Mike Kerr also being on the bill sharpened my keenness to give this album a listen. It is clear from the get go that each artist involved, definitely seem to be having fun when creating this album. And in turn, I felt a great sense of enjoyment myself. Despite having such a

Kanye West, JESUS IS KING, Album Review

Kanye West JESUS IS KING Album Review Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Music The wait has been pain-staking. The ninth studio album by world-renowned musical genius Kanye West has been one that we had been waiting for for roughly 13 whole months. After being announced as Yandhi way back in September 2018, I was one of the fans who'd thought it to be a little early to be releasing yet another album, considering Kanye had already released two existing projects; his eight solo album Ye , and his collaboration project with Kid Cudi in the form of KIDS SEE GHOSTS. Despite this anxiety I felt towards what could've potentially be a very rushed album, I feel that the right decision was made in delaying it. However, with more and more delays occurring, Yandhi eventually transitioned its title into JESUS IS KING , and essentially became the album equivalent to Brexit. The main reason behind the title change, we would later find out, was more or le

Dream State, Primrose Path, Album Review

Dream State Primrose Path Album Review Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Music Dream State are a band who wowed me only recently. I discovered their single "Open Windows", which enchanted me with its heartfelt, triumphant and relentlessly hard-hitting sound. I would later discover, that this single was one that teased the bands debut LP; Primrose Path . It was obvious from the very get-go of listening to their music, that this album was intending to bravely delve into very emotional territory, and ultimately serve as a way to help others who are going through their own hardships. In my mind, this comes across genuinely and beautifully. The sincerity and honesty within this record, in my opinion, is a truly powerful force; one that has the capability to truly inspire those who are in most dire need of inspiration. Stylistically, this album displays a clear blend of electronic and metalcore, which I see as a furthering of blending heavy music genres with

Foals, Part 2 Everything not Saved Will Be Lost, Album Review

Foals Part 2 Everything Not Saved Will be Lost Album Review Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Music After fans got to see Indie-rock revolutionaries Foals make a full-form return in 2019 with the announcement that they'd not only be releasing one, but two albums, all eyes have been on them to pull out all the stops. We had the first part of this two-piece project back in March, with Part 1 Everything Not Saved Will be Lost . I for one really enjoyed the slight return to their older material, while simultaneously being quite a new sound from Foals. However, there was already talk of this album long before its first teaser track. According to an interview with Yannis Philippakis, the frontman of Foals, each album was meant to represent two different styles. While Part 1 supposedly presented a more textured and colourful track list, Part 2 was created to carry the "heavier" bangers. This definitely seemed so with the first two teaser tracks; the awes

Danny Brown, uknowhatimsayin?, Album Review

Danny Brown uknowhatimsayin? Album Review Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Music uknowhatimsayin? is the fifth studio album by experimental American rap artist Danny Brown, and the first since me made a big impact with his 2016 masterpiece Atrocity Exhibition , which truly pushed the boundaries of what rap could be with its heavily psychedelic and distorted sound, along with its intense and aggressive party energy. It seemed apparent from the get go that Danny Brown wanted to take this album in a different direction than its predecessor; towards a more accessible and cohesive sound, which was something I could certainly appreciate. Furthermore, this albums first teaser track "Dirty Laundry" displayed a masterfully subtle production, in which the slightest shift would be enough for listeners to pick up on and enjoy. Two more teaser tracks followed; the amazing "Best Life", which conveyed a soulful 90's rap aesthetic and has really grown
