Malibu Ken, Self-Titled, Album Review

Malibu Ken Self-Titled Album Review Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Music Arguably the first big album of 2019 that I knew very little about until I dived straight in, Malibu Ken is a Kids See Ghosts kind of collaboration between American hip-hop artist Aesop Rock and electronic musician Tobacco . Their musical prowess and talent combining to create this funky and abstract (but also kinda gross in its aesthetic) self-titled record. One thing that I instantly picked up on after listening to both artists individually, is that both of them have a very clear presence on this album. With Aesop Rock's unique vocals and Tobacco's abstract and surreal electronic beats that make up the production of this albums tracks. They go together perfectly like jam and cream, making this album sound like its come from a rap group that have been part of the game for years, rather than an ambitious collaboration. The way that i would describe the overall vibe of the al

Bring Me The Horizon, amo, Album Review

Bring Me The Horizon amo Album Review Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Music The latest instalment and sixth studio album from Bring Me The Horizon is an interesting record to say the least and by far their most outlandish and innovative works to date. It became common knowledge to me that with each album that Bring Me released, their style strayed further and further from their deathcore roots. This album however, confirms to the that the band have taken a completely different direction, with a brand-spanking new idea of what Bring Me The Horizon is. This became a very exciting prospect for someone such as myself as I felt this reflected the bands aim to grow with their audience (I mean, they couldn't be angsty forever) and I felt the most excitement with their two earliest teaser tracks "MANTRA" and "wonderful life", which I would praise as two of my favourite tracks from 2018. But when I fully realised that the Bring Me brand wa

James Blake, Assume Form, Album Review

James Blake Assume Form Album Review Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Music After hearing him on a couple of projects that I really enjoyed last year such as Travis Scott's "Stop Trying To Be God" and the track from the Black Panther soundtrack "Bloody Waters", it was exciting to hear that James Blake would be starting 2019 with his own album. As I had only listened to features from James Blake before this album "Assume Form" was released, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. However, I guessed that it would tie in somewhat to his more Hip-hop related background. And after the first listen of this album, I was right...sort of. In a nutshell, the first impression I had of the album  is that it has this very cold feeling of modern day soul, with Blakes vocals sounding somewhat similar to that of Sam Smith (this is extremely noticeable on tracks like "Are You In Love?"). However, the production of a lot of son

Dua Saleh, Nur, EP Review

Dua Saleh Nur EP Review Listen on Spotify Ladies and gentlemen, 2019 is now upon us and it is unfortunately that time of year that music lovers such as myself find to be a bit of an awkward period.  While there are many promising projects said to be on the way, I have been really delving deep in order to find completely new music. And in a way I'm glad that I did. Otherwise I may have not found this debut effort from an artist with a tonne of potential. Dua Saleh decided to kick things off straight away with a five-track EP called "Nur". And while it is obviously very brief, it still didnt fail to really grab my attention. It sounded very innovative on first listen and while I must admit the effect has worn off slightly, I would still deem it a thoroughly enjoyable listen which I would highly recommend. The EP begins with the track "Sugar Mama" which just oozes charisma from Dua Saleh and really gets across her aesthetic. The occa
