SOPHIE
OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES
Mini Review
A highly praised and highly recommended album, It admittedly took me a fair while to immerse myself with the sounds from the first full-length album from electronic artist SOPHIE. But once I fully listened to it, I could appreciate it for have a very innovative and surreal sound that feels reminiscent of Iglooghost, but with a touch of flamboyance and a more celestial nature.
And while I would categorise this album as mainly electro-pop, it does make for a very solid dance record too, with many of the songs having a very upbeat nature to them. This album is the best kind of quirky and is thoroughly enjoyable to listen to once its been embraced.
Favourite track: Faceshopping
While there are a selection of songs on this album that really stuck out to me, but "Faceshopping" was the one that really took me by surprise. Starting off with the more minimal and abstract sound that I had heard prior to listening to this track in its entirety, it then takes this really gorgeous sounding melodic break towards the end which for me was the songs highlight.
Thank you for reading.
