Black Honey, Black Honey (Deluxe), Mini Review

Black Honey
Black Honey (Deluxe)
Mini Review

The self-titled debut album from Brighton's very own Black Honey is still one of the newer albums I've chosen to review at the last minute with the initial album only being released in late September. However, I have chosen to look over the deluxe edition that came afterwards as it includes an extra handful of brilliant tracks.

This album was essentially my introduction into the bands music since their 2014 emergence and what I picked up on was that it reminded me of artists such as Wolf Alice, Lana Del Rey and Lorde and that to me made Black Honey very appealing to me very quickly.

There are some very infectious vocal melodies from the bands frontwoman Izzy B. Phillips along with a versatile set of melodies that make each song unique, their positive reception is more than deserved and I will be excited to see what the future holds for these rising stars.

Favourite Track: Bloodlust

Exclusive to the deluxe edition, "Bloodlust" simply sounds awesome! While I can appreciate other songs such as "Bad Friends" and "Crowded city" for their technical prowess, I can appreciate this track equally for being more of a stripped down, raw and authentic listen. With some infectious riffs and a fabulously warm and upbeat energy, I actually can't wait to listen to this track when the Spring returns in 2019.

Thank you for reading,

Booth Boy
