Mini Review
This album certainly kept popping up into my memory thanks to the somewhat wondrous album cover that it has, but it wasn't until recently that I got round to fully exploring this piece. While I did tease myself a little bit beforehand with songs that I initially favoured such as "whisper" and "fragrant", I discovered several more songs that I enjoyed once I finished listening to the album as a whole.
The music on this album that mainly fits into the genre of alternative R'n'B, theres a brilliantly dark undertone throughout that adds a lot of atmosphere to aid the albums unique theme of singer Josiah Wise's feelings of sexual urges and grief. And while a theme such as this one would add a heavier sense of dreariness to the respective project, "soil" definitely championed this sort of atmosphere thanks to Wise's very poetic delivery. His vocal range shows plenty of signs of having a lot of soul being poured into this album which has definitely interested me enough to be looking out for where serpentwithfeet goes next.
Favourite track: "bless ur heart"
Following the darker majority of "soil", the albums final track offers a much more beautiful sounding conclusion. This song is absolutely gorgeous and feels both melancholy and triumphant. One of the finer concluding tracks out of all of the 2018 albums I've listened to.
Thank you for reading.
