ASTROWORLD
Mini Review
I'll admit that what attracted me to this album in the first place was the amazing album cover art (which I'd argue is one of 2018's best album covers). And while it didn't take me too long to enjoy a few of the tracks this album has to offer, there was still a bit of distaste that I felt towards the albums overall vibe thanks to my disinterest in "trap rap" or whatever else you want to call it.
The songs that I got into first were the few that stayed somewhat traditional to past hip-hop tracks such as "STOP TRYING TO BE GOD" and "COFFEE BEAN", but I found myself revisiting this album over and over just because of how fascinating and desirable it is. The surreal and psychedelic nature made it really stuck out for me. While 2017 provided a few singles from artists such as Playboi Carti's "Magnolia" and Future's "Mask Off", I have "ASTROWORLD" to thank for being the first full album to show me that a lot of creativity can be implemented into this style of music.
Favourite Track: "SICKO MODE"
While I feel that calling this track "this generations Bohemian Rhapsody" as many people have is unjustified and inaccurate, i can't deny that it is one of the most iconic songs to have come out of 2018 and has evidently been very influential after beat switches seemed far more abundant following this track. While Drake's second half of this track still come across as a little lacklustre, the mid-section has an awesomely over saturated best that pair very nicely with Scotts vocals.
